Cyprus as an all year round destination

Despite the small size of the Island – third biggest in the Mediterranean – the number of things to do is endless and it literally takes a lifetime to fully explore. The beach from the highest peak of the island (which is 1,952 meters tall) is just half an hour away! For this and many other reasons, Cyprus has become a popular place for people who are seeking for better life standards.

People who live on the island have the advantage to enjoy long-lasting summers of around 5-6 months and mild winters. Sometimes it is even possible to go to the beach for a swim and after an hour for skiing on the Mount Olympus, (although the temperature of the sea water during those times can be a little too cold for the locals). The Mediterranean Sea is very friendly and overall very safe, meaning that you will not encounter any great dangers while swimming. Cyprus beaches have been awarded 57 Blue Flags and it ranks first in the EU for water quality and safety while it was also the first to fully comply with the water quality criteria. There are also two salt lakes, that every year they become home for hundreds of pink flamingos!

Besides the wonderful Cypriot natural landscape, there are many more things that add up to the island’s beauty. The ancient artefacts found in every corner of the island reveal a very rich and exciting history dating back to the Palaeolithic era. From Neolithic settlements to Greek theatres, ancient stadiums, proto-Christian as well as Byzantine churches, Venetian castles, medieval mosques, grandiose tombs of Greek and Roman kings and a lot more. Vast amounts of artefacts are exhibited in the most famous museums such as the Louvre, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the British Museum, since the late 19th century.

During the winter time, people love visiting the villages located in the mountains, that maintain a more traditional character. Low-rise stone houses, nice taverns where you can enjoy the traditional gastronomical delicacies. The mountain villages inside the Limassol district have also a very long tradition of winemaking dating back to the ancient times. In fact, the traditional wine “Commandaria” is the world’s oldest named wine still in production, with the name dating back from the crusades. The wine though, dates back to the ancient times, as it was a popular drink at ancient Greek festivals.

Besides the traditional character, cities are quite modern, very friendly and one can immediately sense their international feel. The nightlife is very vibrant, with clubs, bars, restaurants of all types of cuisine, theatres and live music events for all tastes. The island has two modern international airports and two major deep-sea ports, keeping it connected to all the major airports within Europe and abroad.

Due to the excellent living standard the island offers, many people from abroad have chosen to make it their home by buying a house in Cyprus either for permanent settlement, as an investment, or just as a holiday destination. A sweet get away from their routine.
